Our Scope

The Abu Dhabi Biobank’s ability to link cord blood, tissue, stem cells, and a wide range of normal and pathological human specimens with established large genomic, proteomics and clinical records, sets the scene for transformative and cutting-edge initiatives.  

Cord Blood Bank

An important advancement for the nation's health ecosystem, the cord blood bank of Abu Dhabi Biobank will enable better care outcomes, build the nation’s self-sufficiency in meeting the urgent need for cord blood stem cells, and further enhance regional capabilities in research and innovation.

  • Designed to deliver the unmet need of cord blood stem cells to combat life-threatening and highly prevalent diseases like beta thalassemia, sickle cell anemia and other blood disorders.
  • Capacity to store up to 100,000 cord blood samples locally in the UAE 
  • Rich diverse dataset that can provide ready and better matched hemopoietic stem cells globally 
  • State of the art research facilities to enable novel drug discovery and disease prevention 

Pan-human Biobank

The Pan-human Biobank will collect a variety of biological samples from people, including whole blood, serum, plasma, stool, urine, and saliva, that are connected to anonymized healthcare data, creating a valuable resource for researchers worldwide. By providing access to this information, we’re enhancing our understanding of human health and facilitating promising advancements in life sciences.  

  • Preservation of various biospecimens from individuals affected by rare diseases and cancer ailments  
  • Establishment of the first cancer biobank in the MENA region 
  • Capacity to store five million pan human samples locally in the UAE, linked to human health data 
  • Creating a diverse, foundational, bio-asset enabling healthcare outcomes and medical research as the first of a kind initiative in the UAE
